Lens Image Search Will Be Integrated Directly Into the Google Search Bar
- 07-11-2022
Google will make image search more accessible by integrating it into the main interface of the search engine. The Lens image recognition tool was first announced in 2017 and has since been integrated into a range of services including Chrome, Google Photos, and more. Now, this tool will be added to the main search page.
Google's vice president of engineering, Rajan Patel, says the decision is significant because Google's home page is kind of a permanent feature. Meanwhile, the company believes that it is important for users to provide as many ways as possible so that they can ask questions.
In his address to users, Patel wrote that despite the fact that Google strives to be comfortable and recognizable for its users, which is why it does not often change the design of its home page, the time for change has come. And since Google's main priority is to expand the range of opportunities for obtaining information, the implementation of visual issues is more important than maintaining the familiar interface.
The new Lens button immediately after clicking on it will offer to paste the URL of the selected image, or the user can upload it himself. Further, as with a text search, the result of the search results will appear. Unlike a Google Images search that finds similar images, this search will provide a range of useful information about the image. Another useful feature will be text recognition in the image, which, if necessary, will be translated by Google Translate.
For people who have already used Google Lens, the interface will look familiar and easy to navigate. And those users who did not previously know about this tool will be able to get acquainted with it and possibly find a useful application for it.
