Google decided to get serious about optimizing the performance of its applications on big-screen devices and foldables. This was a natural decision in view of the upcoming release of the Google Pixel Tablet as well as further rumors about the development of a foldable device. This solution means expanding the functionality of applications to work on a larger screen. The company's first step was full mouse support and adding drag-and-drop improvements for Workspace apps.

In the post announcing the changes for Workspace, it was mentioned that Google Slides now supports dragging and dropping pictures and text both between slides and between applications if the recipient also supports drag and drop. For Workspace, this functionality has been working for some time, but not for working with other Google applications. Therefore, such an update will be extremely useful for those who use several Google applications and often transfer data between them.

A similar principle has been used for some time now for the Google Drive app, where users can drop and drag folders and files to upload them. Now, this functionality is possible not only in single-window mode, but also in two-window mode. Another useful update was the adaptation of Google Docs with a computer mouse, which now responds to commands without displaying unnecessary elements of touch gestures.

Google's intentions are obvious, as the company plans on the eve of the release of its new devices to adapt all of its applications to them as much as possible. This may seem a little unfair, since before that Google had not been too hasty in fixing some shortcomings, however, any improvements no matter the cause is always useful and good.
