Augmented Reality Initiatives See Boost as TikTok Expands its Creator Effects Rewards Program
- 13-10-2023
TikTok, in its continued pursuit of promoting more Augmented Reality (AR) integration into its platform, has revealed an expansion of its Creator Effects Rewards program. The goal of this initiative is to provide monetary benefits to the effect creators via TikTok’s Effect House platform.
Initially launched in six regions in May, TikTok is now broadening this initiative to include more creators. The eligible candidates now include those located in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.
TikTok has significantly revised the previous requirements for its Creator Effects Rewards program. Initially, creators were required to have their effects used in 500,000 videos to be considered fit for the program. However, the new criteria have replaced this stipulation with the attainment of a Gold badge level. Here, a creator simply needs to have published five effects and ensured that at least three of their effects have been used in 1,000 videos.
The platform has also eased the monetization criteria for each effect. Previously, an effect needed to be incorporated in 500,000 videos to start earning rewards. Now, this requirement has been reduced to 200,000 videos, thus making it easier for creators to start accumulating rewards for their efforts.
Lastly, TikTok is reducing the payout thresholds, enabling more creators to get paid more frequently.
Yet, it's important to mention that the maximum amount that a single effect can earn is $US14,000, and a single creator can earn up to $US50,000 per month maximum.
Clearly, TikTok is working towards an equilibrium between usage and associated monetization.
This commendable attempt can stoke interest in effect creation for the platform. Expanding the network of creators it paves the path to discovering the next viral trend, and every viral AR trend can significantly boost interest and engagement and drive more users to the app.
Though Snapchat is currently leading in this race, the evolving AR dynamics might alter this. With companies like Apple and Meta launching their mixed reality headsets and working on AR glasses, effects creation is projected to gain larger significance.
In this phase of growth, TikTok is naturally eager to keep up with emerging trends, rendering these initiatives essential to maintain the longevity of the app.
