The introduction of new features often enhances user experience on communication platforms. A recently announced update from WhatsApp focuses on improving the convenience of sharing voice messages. This enhancement brings voice message transcripts to both Android and iOS versions of the app, enabling users to view a written version of the received voice messages. This can prove particularly useful for those who find themselves in busy or noisy environments, ensuring they stay connected without requiring audio playback.

WhatsApp Voice Message Transcripts

The messaging service has noted that the transcripts are generated locally on the user's device, ensuring privacy as no external party can access the content. Additionally, the platform continues to safeguard voice messages through end-to-end encryption, maintaining confidentiality.

To utilize this option, users are required to enable it beforehand. Once enabled, a transcript will be displayed beneath the voice message in the chosen language. It's crucial to emphasize that solely the recipient will have access to the transcript, keeping the sender's message confidential.

Currently, WhatsApp supports voice message transcripts in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian on Android devices. The iOS version of the app broadens this range, offering support for languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Thai, Turkish, along with Swedish.

How to utilize this feature:

  • Users might encounter a brief wait prior to the transcript is available.
  • If the message indicates “Transcript unavailable,” it might be due to unsupported languages, background noise interfering with comprehension, or other communication challenges.
  • Users are advised to approach the transcripts with awareness, as there could be inaccuracies in the text.
