OpenAI Delays Advanced Voice Mode Feature Launch, Initiates July Alpha Testing for ChatGPT
- 25-06-2024
OpenAI's Voice Mode Feature for ChatGPT has been delayed, with alpha testing now set to begin in July. On Tuesday, the artificial intelligence firm disclosed that the launch of its advanced Voice Mode, which includes emotive expressions and real-time responses, would be postponed. This feature was highlighted during last month's Spring Updates event, along with the latest GPT-4o model. OpenAI plans to commence alpha testing for the voice mode next month. Details were not provided about other features demonstrated at the event, such as real-time video processing and screen-sharing capabilities for its chatbot.
OpenAI provides an update regarding the delayed launch of GPT-4o features. In a recent update on X (the renamed Twitter), the corporation shared about the enhanced Voice Mode function powered by the GPT-4o technology. This feature enables ChatGPT to respond to prompts and queries verbally in real time, modulating its voice, expressing emotions, and even singing. It was one of the central announcements of the OpenAI event.
Nevertheless, the company confirmed that the feature will not be available before July. Several reasons contribute to the delay, including efforts to enhance the feature's ability to detect and refuse specific content. Additionally, OpenAI is scaling its infrastructure to ensure millions of users can access real-time voice responses without lag.
The initial plan involves releasing the feature to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users as part of its alpha testing program. Based on feedback and insights, the AI firm aims to roll out the feature to all Plus users in the fall, although no specific launch timeline has been shared.
The company also acknowledged other delays in deploying features showcased at the event. For instance, ChatGPT's ability to interact with surroundings via the user's video feed in real-time and screen-sharing capabilities do not have a set release timeline. OpenAI is committed to keeping users informed about these developments.
In a separate update, the AI firm launched its ChatGPT app for macOS on Tuesday, which is available to all users. The app includes new features such as shortcut keys for quick launch, loading screenshots directly into the app, and support for the standard Voice Mode.
